HR as Business Partner

Fall 2017

The primary role of HR today is to build organizational capability to support the execution of business strategy. This full-day interactive workshop, targeted at existing HR professionals, will address some of the main components of moving from being an administrative HR department, to being a strategic HR Business Partner. The workshop will equip the HR professional with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to take a more strategic role as HR Business Partner, become a valuable internal business consultant, and align HR practices to business unit and overall organizational strategy. Participants will get a chance to explore ways for HR to play a larger role in areas such as strategy setting, business process design, competency model development, and internal alignment, ensuring that the human capital supports organizational needs.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the HR business partner (HRBP) position as responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management in designated business units
  • Apply new skills in strategy setting, business process design, and competency models to your existing role and responsibilities
  • Grow and leverage your own position to serve as a consultant to senior management on human resource-related issues and to “speak the language” of the business

Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • The value of the HR function
  • Importance of personal confidence to have a strong point of view and expressing it even if it proves unpopular
  • Communicating – and delivering – in business terms (i.e. ratios, productivity and process mapping)
  • Aligning with overall business strategy
  • Building long-term, trusting relationships with clients and HR colleagues
