Shary is a Vancouver-based mixed media artist whose body of work includes altered photography, encaustic, acrylic, fibre arts, sculptural assemblage and collage. She has taught at Capilano University for almost ten years.

Shary is well-known as a fun, enthusiastic instructor who encourages her students to explore their unique creative voices, to try new techniques, and to discover the endless possibilities of her huge array of mixed media art materials provided in her classes. All her classes are suitable for beginners, as well as experienced artists. Shary’s art and public commissions have been included in solo and group exhibitions, and her work is held in private and public collections in Canada and the U.S.

Shary has a Master’s degree from Carleton University, specializing in Canadian arts and cultural history, and has studied at Emily Carr University, Simon Fraser University, Langara College, and Paul Valery University in France. She is a 2009 creative writing graduate of Simon Fraser University’s The Writer’s Studio. She is also former Chair of the International Encaustic Artists’ Western Canadian Chapter and was nominated for the IEA’s 2014 La Vendeenne Award for Excellence in Education and Teaching.
